NEW DELHI: Flight services at Amritsar airport were disrupted for approximately three hours after the air traffic control (ATC) tower observed a sudden movement of three objects resembling drones in the airspace. As a result, landing and takeoff operations for all scheduled flights were affected for 3 hours. Flight operations remained suspended from 10:10 pm to 12:45 am, resuming only after receiving clearance from the ATC tower.Sandeep Aggarwal, the officiating director of Shri Guru Ramdas International Airport, informed PTI on Wednesday that the incident occurred on Monday at 10:10 pm, and the movement of the drone-like objects persisted for nearly three hours.Aggarwal noted that this was the first reported instance of such objects moving in the air near the airport, raising serious concerns due to the airport’s proximity to the Indo-Pak border. The police are still investigating whether the objects spotted by the ATC were indeed drones and who was operating them. The airport authorities also sought assistance from the nearby Air Force station. The SHO said that while drones typically have blinking lights fitted atop, in this case, the airport authority reported a “single spotlight.”Following a complaint by the airport authority, a comprehensive joint search operation was conducted with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), during which several individuals from different villages around the airport were questioned, but none had any information about the objects flying near the airport.
